About

Danning Xie

Danning Xie (b.1999, China) is a ceramicist based in London, UK and Beijing, China.

'My practice centers on sculptural ceramic objects that navigate the interplay between artistry and functionality, primarily utilizing hand-building techniques like coiling and slab-building.

Influenced by the rich heritage of Chinese ceramics, I also seek to embrace cross-cultural perspectives. I draw inspiration from classical art, antiquities, and artifacts across global cultures, seeking to reconfigure and reinterpret diverse cultural symbols with traditional Chinese motifs to foster cross-cultural dialogue. I'm also keenly interested in feminist perspectives, often incorporating female narratives to examine women's experiences within socio-cultural contexts, or emphasizing the female body's form to investigate the dynamic fusion of body and object. Materially, I actively explore combining ceramics with other crafts and materials.'
