Apparel Figure Series

Inspired by classic female portraiture of the British Tudor period (1485–1603), this series reimagines these historical paintings as ceramic vases.

Their elaborate garments are re-envisioned as vessels, with fabric or rubber balls incorporated to symbolize the female breast. These oil paintings reflect how noble English women of the era displayed wealth and status through their clothing and jewelry, which I believe could involve a form of "self-objectification." By converting these two-dimensional portraits into three- dimensional sculptures, I explore the concept of "objectification," merging vase forms with bust-like shapes to create a union of object and human anatomy.

These sculptures invite viewers to reconsider the boundaries between humanity and objects from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
